The First Gardening Club meeting

On Wednesday 15th April we had our first meeting in the kitchen garden covered area.
Nachi and Manon came to help me as extra hands were needed.

The weather was beautiful, warm and sunny and at 12.30 sharp children started to come join us in little groups. (I expected the whole group to come at 12.30 until 1.15, which would have been easier to give instructions and hold the groups together)

We had 2 activities planned for them.

For the young ones ages 5 and 6 we would have them to make their own Garden Club badge,
colour in the flower. naming the parts as we went along. Stem - Leaf- Leaves- Petals making up the Flower head. They wrote their names so that next week they can wear them after we laminate them. Nachi very kindly offered to do this and add a string so they carry them around their necks.

After that, they filled half of their 500 ml yoghurt pots with compost, sowed some mixed lettuce seeds, watered it, covered it with a little compost. Closed it off with the clear plastic lids.
They all wrote the date, what they sowed and their name on the label, which was then put onto the pot.  All pots were taking in the light, covered area in the play area.

The older ones also made their badges and then sowed
- Grey hound cabbages

Kalibos pointed cabbages

Tomatoes
-Sweet peppers
- Lettuces
- New potatoes

with a view to sell later in the school farm shop.
