Children were wearing their own made Garden Club badges for the first time (not only did they look fantastic, but Volunteer parents Nachi, Manon, Lindy and Karina could easily identify the gardeners.
First they came to find out what had happened between sowing the seeds last week and today.
What a happy surprise they got when they took off the clear lid, inside their yoghurt pots, were the little germinated lettuces and cabbages peeping through the compost

The older group planted tomatoes, peppers and chillies last week and they were a little disappointed that these vegetable seeds had not yet germinated. A lesson of realising the not every thing (or one) develops at the same speed. Sometimes we need a little more time and patience and nurturing for this little plant to come to maturity.
A large group of children spend time around the compost heap. Some inquisitive boys sat holding a big snail in their hand.
Observing and talking to it. I overheard one say to the other: "OK, you can take it to the classroom and then it is my turn to take it home to look after..." They have taking their 'caring for the environment role' very seriously! My apologies to the teacher and parents who had an extra guest in their rooms.
The others sieved the compost, to get rid of large pieces of root, stones and rubbish and ended up with a wheelbarrow of lovely compost. The children filled 8 large pots with (SWIFT) early potatoes. If all goes well these should be in the farm shop in June.

Today's sowing:
- French beans
- Runner beans,
- basil,
- marjoram
- Leek
- dill.
What a lovely time we had!
PS regarding the school shop on Friday, we don't have much in the shop yet, just some
- rhubarb,
- leeks
- purple sprouting broccoli,
- parsley
- growing lettuces
- rocket leaves for now.
